Mt. Pleasant

Located in beautiful Eastern Cabarrus County on the high spot between Dutch Buffalo Creek and Adams Creek, Mt. Pleasant is surrounded by rolling hills, farmland and forests. Throughout town, the history of Mt. Pleasant can be discovered on a plate and in a glass, along downtown streets and outdoor trails, at antique destinations and inside restored landmarks.

The Historic District

The Mount Pleasant Historic District was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. The 184 properties in the district showcase the towns growth from a college village to a rural textile community and feature an impressive collection of buildings and homes with a wide variety of architectural styles including Greek Revival, Gothic Revival, Italianate and Queen Anne.

Food and Drink

Many of these historic properties have been repurposed to house small businesses. Enjoy a hearty meal in the heart of downtown at the former Mt. Pleasant Hosiery Mill, now home to 73 & Main restaurant. The upscale American restaurant features a menu of locally sourced ingredients and is home to the Old Well Brewery, the first official brewery in Mt. Pleasant. 73 & Main is also known for its bourbon bar which features one of the largest selections of bourbon in the state, including more than 35 rare and antique bourbons.

The multi-level outdoor patio at European-style Café Lentz beckons guest to enjoy pastries, flatbreads, sandwiches and salads. Stop for a dessert of cake pops or cannoli at adjoining The Bakery at Mount Pleasant, sample barbecue from Mt. Pleasant Smokehouse or stop by the What-A-Burger No. 13 diner for a classic burger and fries.

A former prison campus is now the home of Southern Grace Distilleries, an award-winning whiskey and moonshine distillery open for tours and tastings. Get a behind-the-scenes look at the facility, have an in-depth discussion on the barrel aging process and pick up craft spirits to take home. Every batch and bottle is hand-labeled and numbered.

Mt. Pleasant is an antique enthusiast’s paradise. Hunt for treasure through sprawling collections of antiques at local shops like White Owl Antique Mall, Ruffin’s Roost and Cline’s Country Antiques, where The Avett Brothers filmed the music video for their hit “February Seven.” Before departing, explore local history at the Eastern Cabarrus Historical Society Museum.
